LOCAL AREAS -
CAMBERLEY, CROWTHORNE, SANDHURST & YATELEY |
| Camberley is a busy
county town situated in the north western limits of Surrey, adjacent to both
Berkshire and Hampshire. |
| Having grown for
over a century on the original coaching route from London through to Plymouth
and the West Country which evolved into the A30, Camberley has always been a
stopping off point that has offered hostelries and facilities for the traveler
and has over many years evolved first into a dormitory town for London and more
recently into a busy hub for local business. It today hosts head offices
and local offices of both national and international companies. |
| The evolution of
Aldershot as the home of the British Army also affected the development of
Camberley and until recently the Camberley Staff College played a major role in
officer training for both UK and overseas officers. Camberley is well
known for the nearby
Sandhurst Military College that is the principle place of training for young British Army
officers. |
| Crowthorne is
renowned for Wellington College, the public school which is on a par with all of
the major English public schools. Always associated with the Duke of
Wellington the victor at the Battle of Waterloo, Crowthorne is adorned by a
magnificent avenue of giant maple trees that leads from the station up to
Finchampstead ridges. The trees were planted after that battle as a
monument to honour the victory. It is well worth visiting and from the
ridges there are magnificent views over Hampshire. Statfield Saye House, home of
the current Duke of Wellington and Wellington Country Park are also only a short
drive away. |
| More recently the
development of the area has seen major changes in shopping facilities within the
Camberley town centre and a few years ago Marks and Spencer and Tesco joined forces in
developing a major shopping area known as The Meadows which is situated on
former meadows that were once a boundary between Berkshire, Hampshire and
Surrey. |
| Home to a ballet
school and with many riding schools, golf courses and leisure centres nearby
Camberley has become a place full of activities that make it both a pleasant and
convenient place in which to live. |
|
Yateley is a small, friendly village, surrounded by beautiful countryside.
Uniquely there is a well managed large area of
heathland which is ideal for country walks and horse riding. The shops are conveniently located
and include a large supermarket on the outskirts of the village. There is a park
with a small fishing pond and a circuit of exercise obstacles. A sailing
lake is nearby, there are fishing lakes within the village which also has bowls, cricket and football clubs for all
ages, together with a nine hole golf course. A number of churches
and a variety of pubs add to the quinsenntial
English village atmosphere.

|
A variety of schools both state and private
are available within the town of Camberley and in Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Yateley and nearby. The
American Community School in Egham offers door to door busing services to
Camberley and many surrounding locations. |
| Camberley,
Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Yateley are ideally situated near to many picturesque Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey villages and are only a short distance from
the Reading Oracle Shopping Complex. The towns of Fleet and Basingstoke are
within a few miles and offer a further variety
of shopping facilities. The M3, M4 and
M25 motorways are within easy reach and rail services to London and other parts
of the country are nearby.
|
| If you need the convenience of
the motorway and rail networks with quality of life just a few minutes from open
countryside this is an area well worth exploring.
